Otters Power Play Too Much for Attack

Owen Sound, Ontario - The Erie Otters top ranked power play unit was too much to handle for the Owen Sound Attack Sunday afternoon as Erie capitalized five times with the man advantage to beat the Attack 7-3.

Owen Sound hopped out to the early lead as Kyle Platzer beat Devin Williams with a wrist shot from the right wing circle 4:22 into the game. Connor McDavid would tie the game nearly four minutes later when his centering pass would deflect off of an Attack defender and past Michael McNiven. Dylan Strome and Devin Williams would assist on Erie's first power play tally.

Erie would break things open in the second period starting with Alex DeBrincat's 33rd goal of the season nearly midway through the period. The Otters would extend the lead to two with Nick Baptiste's 16th of the year, with McDavid and Strome setting up the Buffalo Sabres draft pick. Zach Nastasiuk would get one back for Owen Sound on the power play a little over a minute later. But the Otters power pay would get another chance late in the frame. Dylan Strome drove the net from the near corner; his centering pass would pinball off of a defender and deflect into the net. Erie led 4-2 after 40 minutes.

The Otters power play wasn't done yet as the game headed into the third period. This time former Attack Kurtis MacDermid blasted one home from the point 4:46 into the period. Erik Bradford kept it close, bringing Owen Sound within two again three minutes later. It wouldn't last long as Erie grasped the game with Nick Betz 19th of the year on a beautiful backdoor feed from Connor McDavid. Alex DeBrincat would deflect home his second of the night on Travis Dermott's power play point shot late in the frame as Erie rolled to a 7-3 victory.

Connor McDavid's five point night led the way for Erie with a goal and four assists. Strome followed that with a four point night with a goal and three assists. Alex DeBrincat's three point afternoon brought him to 67 points on the season, setting a new record in Erie Otters history for points in a rookie season, breaking Connor McDavid's previous mark of 66. Remi Elie continued his point streak to six games with an assist on Betz's goal.

The Otters picked up their sixth straight win, and started their season long five game road swing with two victories. Erie will head to Peterborough Thursday to take on the Petes for the first time this season.
