Everett AquaSox News Release
The Everett AquaSox (7-11) won their fourth straight game against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (2-16) 5-1, improving to 2-5 at the friendly confines of Everett Memorial Stadium by exploding for five runs in the first inning to snap their five-game home losing streak.
Sox starter Jose Campos (1-2, 3.05 ERA) picked up his first win of the season going six innings and allowing one run while striking out seven, a season high for the right-hander. Campos has only allowed one run in three of his first four starts this season.
The Frogs offense gave Campos all the support he needed by batting around the order with six hits in the bottom of the first. Everett scored the first run of the game when right-fielder Nathan Melendres was hit in the left forearm by Volcanoes starter Reinier Roibal. After an RBI single by third baseman Jharmidy De Jesus, his third RBI in as many games with the Sox, first baseman Ethan Paquette cleared the bases with a two-out double. Roibal had only allowed five runs in 14 innings coming in to the game.
The five-run cushion was enough to coast to victory, but the Sox added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out double by shortstop Marcus Littlewood. Littlewood was 3-5 in the game, his most hits in a game this season for the Sox.
Everett will look to make it five straight against Salem-Keizer when they send out left-hander Jordan Shipers (0-2, 5.54 ERA) against Volcanoes righty Kendry Flores (0-2, 10.00 ERA) in the second game of the three game set at 7:05 p.m.
