Vancouver Canadians News Release

(PK Park - Eugene, Oregon) - It was a historical night that the Canadians would like to forget as the Eugene Emeralds tied the Northwest League record for consecutive victories with their 13th in a row, topping Vancouver 7-3 in front of a record setting crowd of 4,553 out at PK Park in Eugene on Monday night.

Trailing by a run in the top of the 2nd inning, Vancouver got on the board when CF Jon Jones scored from second base on a hard hit single from 1B Balbino Fuenmayor tying the game at 1-1.

Vancouver LHP Justin Nicolino would go four innings on Monday night, scattering four hits and giving up a pair of runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Eugene CF Kyle Gaedele and 1B Zack Komentani hit back-to-back doubles before DH Mike Gallic singled home Komentani to extend the Emeralds lead to 3-1.

Canadians manager John Schneider dipped into his bullpen and saw RHP Travis Garrett give up four runs before recording an out. Garrett walked SS Jace Peterson to lead off the inning before giving up a triple to LF Mykal Stokes, a walk to 2B Cody Spangenberg and a three-run home run to RF Lee Orr. When all the dust had settled, it was 7-1 Eugene.

Vancouver managed to get a pair of runs back in the top of the 6th inning off of Emeralds reliever RHP Chris Wilkes. Canadians 3B Matt Johnson was hit by a pitch and advanced to second base when 2B Jon Berti reached on a throwing error from Eugene 3B Clint Moore. With the two runners on-base, Wilkes would uncork a wild pitch advancing both Johnson and Berti before C Luis Hurtado would knock them both in with a hard hit single cutting the lead to 7-3.

That would be all the offense the Canadians could muster off the Eugene bullpen as history was made out at PK Park as RHP Luis de la Cruz struck out LF Steve McQuail to lock up the Emeralds 13th consecutive victory, tying them for the most in Northwest League history.
