Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. -- The Everett AquaSox (11-7, 27-29) evened up the five game series with the Tri-City Dust Devils (12-6, 34-22) by a score of 6-4 behind a masterful performance by Jose Campos, who went eight innings without an earned run and did not allow a base runner until the seventh inning.
Campos (5-3, 2.74 ERA) retired the first 19 batters he faced, and 21 of the first 22, allowing just two hits and two unearned runs in the longest start of his minor league career. Campos moved into first place in the Northwest League in strikeouts with 63 on the season, and has allowed just four earned runs in his six starts at Everett Memorial.
The Sox scored three runs in the first inning, scoring the first run on a two-out error by Tri-City shortstop Taylor Featherston. The prolonged inning led to a two-run shot by third baseman Ramon Morla, his third home run of the homestand and fourth in the last month.
Morla added an inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning, made possible by two Dust Devils' errors on a groundout to third base, and left-fielder Jetsy Extrano hit a solo home run, his first in ten games with the Sox, to provide all the runs Everett would need.
The Dust Devils hit a pair of two-run home runs, the first in the eighth and the second in the ninth, to tighten the score to 6-4 but newest Frog reliever David Colvin retired the last two batters to seal the win that kept pace with Salem-Keizer, who defeated Spokane for the third straight game, for first place in the West Division.
For the rubber match of the series, the Sox will send out left-hander Bennett Whitmore (3-5, 4.78 ERA) against Tri-City right-hander Christian Bergman (6-3, 2.45 ERA), who has pitched 30.2 straight scoreless innings and is less than two innings away from the NWL record, at 7:05 p.m.
