EVERETT, Wash. -- The Everett AquaSox (12-7, 28-29) jumped all over the Tri-City Dust Devils (12-7, 34-23) with five runs in the first inning to take the rubber match of the five-game set between the two division leaders 6-3, moving in to a tie for the best record so far in the second half.

Tri-City starter Christian Bergman (6-4, 2.85 ERA) came in to the game less than two innings away from the Northwest League record for consecutive scoreless innings, but Sox denied league history when designated hitter Jharmidy De Jesus started the rally in the first inning with an RBI single that hit the scoreboard in right field to end the scoreless streak at 31 innings and an inning shy of the record.

Frogs left-fielder Jabari Blash stepped to the plate after De Jesus and hit a three-run shot to the homer porch for his team-leading ninth bomb of the season, giving him 11 RBI in the homestand. Blash is tied for the most home runs since July 14 in the league with eight, and is the only player in the NWL with a slugging percentage over .600 in the last month at .671.

Sox starter Bennett Whitmore (4-5, 4,76 ERA) won his second consecutive home start after losing his first four decisions at home to start the season, going six innings and allowing three runs. Whitmore has allowed four earned runs in his last two starts after allowing 23 earned runs in his first five starts at home.

The Sox have won three straight home series after they lost three of their first four home series of 2011, and the win keeps Everett in at least a tie for first place in the West Division. The Frogs now head to Eugene for a three-game set, where the two teams will match up right-handers Jordan Pries (2-2, 3.62 ERA) and Juan Herrera (2-3, 4.23 ERA) at 7:05 p.m.
