August 14, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL) - Yakima Bears News Release

The Yakima Bears failed to complete a five-game series sweep of the Vancouver Canadians at Yakima County Stadium Sunday, losing by a score of 7-3. The Bears outhit the Canadians 10-9, but committed all of the errors in the game.

Bears starting pitcher Teo Gutierrez gave up his first home run of the season in the first inning, as Canadians slugger Kevin Patterson hit a two-run homer to give the visiting squad an early 2-0 lead. It was the first home run given up by Gutierrez this season and the first by the Bears pitching staff in the month of August.

The Canadians extended the lead to 4-0 in the third inning with a pair of unearned runs after the lead-off batter reached on the first of three errors for Raul Navarro in the game.

The Bears loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the third inning with back-to-back singles from Tyler Bream and Jae Yun Kim and a walk by Danny Pulfer, but managed only one run off of a Westley Moss sacrifice fly.

After the Canadians scored a run in the top of the fourth inning, Henry Zabala and Tyler Hilt both hit RBI-doubles following a lead-off single from Jimmy Comerota. The two runs left the Bears trailing 5-3.

Gutierrez would leave the game after the fifth inning having allowed three earned runs and five runs total. Gutierrez took the loss to fall to 3-2 this season, as the Bears offense did not score after the fourth inning.

Bears reliever Drew Zizina worked out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth inning, but couldn't work around a pair of errors in the seventh inning, as two unearned runs were charged to him in the seventh.

Reliever Miles Reagan pitched the final two innings and allowed no runs and no hits while fanning four Canadians batters.

Four Bears batters finished 2-for-4: Garrett Weber, Henry Zabala, Justin Hilt, and Jae Yun Kim. Both Comerota and Bream went 1-for-4 in the loss.

The Bears had a four-game winning streak snapped, while the Canadians ended a seven-game losing skid with Sunday's game. The Bears start a three-game series at Yakima County Stadium against the Spokane Indians Monday night. Game time is scheduled for 7:05. Right-handed pitchers Yiomar Camacho of the Bears and Santo Perez of the Indians are the probable starters for the opening game of the series.
