FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The South Bend Silver Hawks exploded for 24 hits in defeating the TinCaps, 19-4, Sunday at Parkview Field. Jose Dore nailed his first professional home run, a tape-measure shot to right-center.

Fort Wayne pitchers had held South Bend to just two runs in the first three games of the series combined. The Silver Hawks scored in each of the first three innings to build a lead, then blew it open with 14 runs in the final three frames.

Keon Broxton led off the game with a triple to center and scored when Mike Freeman lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.

In the bottom of the first, Everett Williams smacked an RBI single to center to tie the game. The Silver Hawks scored two runs in each of the next two innings, capped by a Yazy Arbelo homer to push the deficit to 5-1.

The TinCaps rebounded on Dore's two-run blast in the fourth inning which cut it to a 5-3 margin. They rallied again in the fifth as Donavan Tate doubled home Chris Bisson to make it 5-4. Fort Wayne loaded the bases with one out, but LHP Dan Taylor entered from the bullpen and retired the next two batters without another run scoring.

Emmanuel Quiles led off the sixth inning with a double, but the TinCaps could not take advantage. From there, South Bend scored 14 unanswered runs: three in the seventh, seven in the eighth and four in the ninth to put the game out of reach.

Taylor was the winning pitcher in his first decision of the season; Fort Wayne RHP Adys Portillo (0-1) took the loss.

Fort Wayne finished the series with a 3-1 record while South Bend improved to 1-3. The TinCaps open a four-game road series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A Tampa Bay Rays) Monday at 7:35 p.m. LHP Andrew Werner makes his debut in affiliated baseball against Bowling Green LHP C.J. Riefenhauser.
