Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The River Bandits gave up three runs in the eighth inning of a tie game to drop the series finale of a four-game series, 5-3 against Beloit at Modern Woodmen Park.
The River Bandits opened up its scoring in the second inning when left-fielder Oscar Taveras and catcher Cody Stanley hit back to back solo shots to put the Bandits in front 2-1. Taveras went 2-for-2 with a solo homer before leaving the game holding the back of his right leg with an apparent injury. Stanley went 1-for-4 in the game, while gunning down two attempted Beloit base stealers.
Later in the game while trailing 5-2, designated hitter Kyle Conley homered to close the gap to 5-3 in the eighth, the final Bandit tally of the day.
Left-hander Anthony Ferrara, and Beloit's right-hander Adrian Salcedo each went six innings allowing two earned runs without recording a decision. Angel DeJesus (0-1) replaced Ferrara and was credited with the loss. He went 1.1 innings allowing the three deciding runs on four hits.
Salcedo struck out 10 in his 2011 debut for Beloit. Right-hander Michael Tonkin (1-0) pitched 1.2 innings in relief of Salcedo. He allowed one run on two hits in relief.
The River Bandits return to action Monday when they take to the road to face off against the Kane County Cougars. First pitch is set for 3 p.m., with Bandits left-hander Kevin Siegrist opposing Cougar left-hander Crawford Simmons.
