DAYTON, OH - For the sixth consecutive season the Dayton Dragons will host high school baseball, as 34 area high school teams will play regular season games at Fifth Third Field.

The Troy Trojans head to the Dragons' home field to battle the Greenville Green Wave on Monday, April 11th at 7:30 PM.

The Trojans played at Fifth Third field last season and are led by seventh-year head coach Ty Welker. He is a 1989 graduate of THS and played as a Trojan under then head coach Fred McMullen. Welker's staff includes pitching coach and Troy native Heath Murray, a former major league pitcher. Murray, a THS graduate, was a third round pick of the San Diego Padres in 1994 and pitched parts of four seasons in the major leagues.

Because of Murray's expertise, Welker said his team will lean heavily on that aspect of the game.

"We anchor everything we do around our pitching staff."

The Trojans sport eight seniors on the 2011 roster, and Welker believes that each member of the class is a strong leader. Not only will it be a spectacular night at the ballpark, but it will also be the first time that THS and GHS have seen each other in some time.

"It's (Greenville's) first year back in the GWOC North," Welker said. "So we haven't played them for two years. It'll be nice to rekindle that rivalry and it's a big deal because all of the games count heavily."

Greenville was successful in last year's trip to Fifth Third Field. The Wave toppled Piqua with an early barrage of runs, and won by a final score of 12-6. Head Coach Ryan Fiely says his players relish the chance to play in a professional venue. "The guys really enjoy getting a chance to play there, and they always list playing at Fifth Third Field as their favorite moment of the year," Fiely said.

The Green Wave is led by senior Matt Orth, a pitcher and second baseman who batted cleanup last season, and senior shortstop Lukas Krueger. Fiely also said juniors Tyler Zimmerman and Storm Wolter, who played at the varsity level as sophomores, are players to keep an eye on.

This contest marks the fifth consecutive year that Troy has played at the Dragons home ballpark, and the fourth time in five years for Greenville.

The Dayton Dragons have been hosting the Miami Valley's best baseball teams since 2006, and are proud to continue the tradition for a sixth year. A compete list of high school baseball games scheduled to be played at Fifth Third Field can be found at daytondragons.com.

All games are free to attend and the media are invited to cover them. Gates will open one hour prior to the first game played that day. High schools may provide their own PA announcers, cheer squads, and national anthem singers. Some even bring their own radio broadcasters to the ballpark. Participating high schools sell Dragons tickets to help raise money for their programs.
