South Bay Lakers News Release
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - Despite 61 combined points from South Bay's lethal backcourt of Mac McClung and Mason Jones, the South Bay Lakers (17-9), the G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers, fell to the Texas Legends (15-14), 122-110, on Frontline Workers Appreciation Night on Sunday at the UCLA Health Training Center.
South Bay came out hot with a quick 8-0 run capped off by an emphatic dunk by McClung, who had 13 of his 26 points in the opening frame. The Lakers held the Legends to just 20 points in the quarter and held a six-point advantage after 12 minutes of play, 26-20. Texas would fight back, however, as their two-way forward Moses Wright, coming off a 36-point performance last game at Agua Caliente, exploded for 15 points in the second quarter. The Legends used an 11-0 run in the final few minutes of the half to take a strong lead heading into the break, 54-46.
Despite the solid play of Texas' starting unit, Mason Jones kept South Bay within striking distance in the second half as he dropped 23 of his 35 points in the final two quarters. Andre Ingram provided a spark as well, knocking down both of his three-point attempts off the bench. Texas did not let up at any point, though, as they held on for the win, 122-110.
Moses Wright (30 points, 10 rebounds) and Carlik Jones (14 points, 12 assists) recorded double-doubles to lead Texas in their road victory. Former first-round draft pick Justin Jackson dropped 24 points for the Legends while fellow starter Olin Carter III connected six times from three-point range for 24 points as well.
Throughout the evening, the South Bay Lakers and Beyond Meat celebrated Frontline Workers Appreciation Night. The alternative, colorful jerseys of the South Bay players were auctioned off, and all fans in attendance received special theme night t-shirts.
South Bay and Texas will square off again on Tuesday night at 7:00 P.M. PT at the UCLA Health Training Center.
