Indiana Mad Ants News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne Mad Ants completed a home back-to-back sweep of the Long Island Nets on Monday night in Fort Wayne, just over 24 hours after Sunday's overtime win. This time, it was Fort Wayne taking a 100-80 win over Long Island.
On Monday night, it was Fort Wayne who got off to the quick start, jumping up early on transition baskets. A Kavell Bigby-Williams free throw with two minutes remaining pushed the Mad Ants lead to 23-11. It had been a balanced effort that got Fort Wayne there with Walt Lemon Jr., Jordan Bell and Darius Adams all chipping in on the scoreboard. Fort Wayne led 23-17 after one. The Mad Ants connected on 40 percent of their first quarter shots versus just 23.1 percent from Long Island.
With 9:35 left in the second quarter, Fort Wayne pushed back ahead on back-to-back three pointers from Adams and Bell, prompting a Long Island timeout. An Andrew Rowsey three pointer four minutes later pushed the lead to a then game high 13 points. Long Island would get back within four on an Alex Robinson basket before Fort Wayne's Gabe York and Long Island's Day'ron Sharpe exchanged threes. Fort Wayne led 50-43 at half.
The Nets pushed on Fort Wayne's lead throughout the early minutes of the second half, but a York three pointer with 8:53 left extended the Mad Ants lead back to 11. Fort Wayne pushed the lead to 69-54 with 5:53 left in the quarter on a pair of free throws worth four points after a foul on Brandon Rachal and Jordan Crawford's second technical foul of the game. The Nets responded with a pair of big makes including a Bryce Brown three, but each time Fort Wayne responded and they led 85-64 after three.
The teams spent most of the fourth quarter exchanging baskets. With 4:25 left, a York three pushed the Mad Ants ahead 95-72, a score that would hold for over two minutes before a Robinson free throw for the Nets ended the drought.
Fort Wayne was led by York's 20 as seven different Mad Ants finished in double figure scoring. Nate Hinton added a 16 point, 10 rebound double double which moves him to 13th all-time for Mad Ant double doubles. Bell also had a double double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
