SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors (10-17) drop to the Salt Lake City Stars (11-16) in Sunday's matchup at Kaiser Permanente Arena, 106-94.
Santa Cruz held Salt Lake City to two points in the first six minutes of the game and lead by as many as a 17 in the first quarter but only entered the second quarter up, 28-21. The Stars closed the first half on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to two points into halftime, 51-49.
The Stars took their first lead of the game, 59-58, and outscored the Warriors, 31-19, in the third to move into the final frame ahead, 81-70. The gap was too much for the Warriors to close in the fourth and they lose their fifth consecutive game.
Guard Eli Pemberton led the Warriors with 26 points. Forward Jerome Robinson added 18 points, six rebounds and five assists. Center Selom Mawugbe recorded his second double-double of the season (16 points, 10 rebounds).
Stars Forward Carsen Edwards scored 20 of his 27 points in the second half to lead the Stars and guard Marques Bolden tallied 19 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.
