
South Bay Can't Keep up with Skyforce in Loss

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The South Bay Lakers could not keep pace with the Sioux Falls Skyforce as they fell 152-112 on Friday night. Alex Caruso led the Lakers (2-7) with 22 points, but 36 points from Rodney Purvis and 22 three-pointers from Sioux Falls gave the Skyforce (8-1) the big win.
Purvis led the Skyforce to an early 32-23 lead after one as he scored 13 points in the opening 12 minutes. Caruso scored seven quick points to keep the Lakers close. Purvis scored 13 more in the second quarter as Sioux Falls pulled away and took a 72-49 halftime lead. Caruso scored 15 points in the first half, but 26 from Purvis and 17 points from Raphiael Putney put the Skyforce up big.
It was more of the same in the third as Sioux Falls outscored the Lakers 44-33 to take a 116-82 lead going into the fourth. Bubu Palo scored 11 points in the third while Scott Machado led the Lakers with seven points in the period. Marcus Allen scored nine points in the fourth, but Sioux Fall's bench put the finishing touches on a dominating win.
Purvis led the way with 36 points on a night where he shot 8-14 from beyond the arc. Putney scored 24 points and Briante Weber stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and five steals. Malik Newman (18 points), Yante Maten (16 points) and Palo (14 points) all reached double figures for Sioux Falls.
South Bay was led by Caruso's 22 points as seven Lakers scored in double figures. Machado posted 17 points and eight assists, while Allen scored a career-high 18 points. Derrick Griffin Jr. came off the bench with 13 points on a perfect 6-6 from the field. Jemerrio Jones (12 points, seven rebounds), Johnathan Williams (12 points) and Demarcus Holland (10 points) all scored in double digits.
The South Bay Lakers will face the Skyforce again tomorrow night at 5:00pm PT from the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
