Lakeland Magic Hold off Delaware Blue Coats

The Lakeland Magic, NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, defeated the Delaware Blue Coats, 112-107, Friday night at the RP Funding Center.

The Magic victory came in large part due to the high-volume scoring provided by Two-Way Player, Amile Jefferson who notched a double-double, posting 23 points, 14 rebounds in 34:24 minutes of play. Gabe York finished with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Two Way-Player, Troy Caupain had 19 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists.

For the Blue Coats, Haywood Highsmith scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. Matt Farrell had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Cameron Oliver came off the bench to score 15 points and 8 rebounds while Jared Brownridge had 19 points.

The Magic would strike first on the night with a three-pointer by Assignment Player, Melvin Frazier Jr. and with 5:12 left in the first quarter led the Blue Coats 20-9. With 2:52 left on the clock the Blue Coats had tied it up and the score remained tied 24-24 at the end of the first quarter. The contest remained neck and neck with the Blue Coats outscoring the Magic 34-30 in the second quarter giving them the 58-54 lead going into the locker room at the half.

Melvin Frazier Jr. and Gabe York hit back to back three-pointers at the start of the third quarter to spark a Magic run. The score was all tied up 65-65 with 8:12 to go in the third and would remain close for the remainder of the quarter with the Magic up by two-points going into the forth. The Magic held onto the lead outscoring the Blue Coats 28-25 in the fourth for a final score 112-107.

The Magic are back home again on Sunday, November 25 for round two against the Delaware Blue Coats. The game will be at the RP Funding Center at 6PM.
