New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
NASHVILLE, Tennessee -- Ryan Vogelsong threw a five hit shutout striking out 12 to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 3 to 0 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Tuesday Night in Nashville clinching the PCL East Division crown.
The Sounds provided all the offense Vogelsong would need in the last of the first inning. With two outs and Dave Doster at first, Adam Hyzdu and Jorge Toca posted back-to-back singles, the second driving in Doster. Nashville added to the lead in the bottom of the third. The rally started again after two men had been retired by Zephyrs starting pitcher Doug Sessions. John Barnes singled then stole second. Hyzdu drove in Barnes with a double that one-hopped off the wall in right-center.
Sessions (8-5) suffered the loss for the Zephyrs pitching seven innings allowing three runs on nine hits. The Z's were led offensively by Kyle Logan who had two of the five hits Vogelsong allowed.
The series with the Sounds resumes on Wednesday at 12:00 PM. D.J. Houlton (3-2 4.96) is scheduled to start for the Zephyrs and Matt Guerrier (3-6, 4.10) for Nashville. The game can be heard on WTIX-AM 690 and www.zephyrsbaseball.com with Tim Grubbs calling the action.
