PCL East Champs Upend Zephyrs, 6-4

Nashville Sounds News Release
NASHVILLE â One day after clinching the PCL East Division, the Sounds continued their winning ways, defeating the New Orleans Zephyrs, 6-4, on Wednesday afternoon at Greer Stadium.
The offense gave starter Matt Guerrier plenty of support in the first two innings, courtesy of the longball â one off the bat of an expected threat, the second came from a source not as likely.
With two away in the first, All-PCL selection John Barnes hit a rocket to left field for his 12th home run of the year, placing him second behind J.J. Davis on the Sounds' longball hierarchy. One inning later, Tomas de la Rosa ended a 191 at-bat homerless streak, one that stretches back to May 9th against Sacramento, with another solo blast, his fourth roundtripper.
Guerrier surrendered the lead in the top of the third when he allowed four consecutive two-out hits leading to three Zephyrs runs, but the Sounds matched the three-spot with one of their own the bottom of the frame.
The rally began with a leadoff single by Guerrier. Tony Alvarez also singled, putting runners at first and second for Bobby Hill. Hill, who has gotten off to a slow start since joining the Sounds earlier this month, singled sharply to center. Manager Trent Jewett initially held Guerrier at third, but when centerfielder Colin Porter overran the ball, Guerrier and Alvarez came plateward, giving Nashville the lead back at 4-3. Hill, who advanced to third on the play, later scored on a Jorge Toca groundout.
Up 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth, Nashville added an insurance run when closer Jim Mann, who had come in to the game in the top of the inning to silence a New Orleans rally, drove in Aaron Holbert with an RBI groundout.
Mann threw a perfect ninth for his fourth save, protecting the victory for Guerrier (4-6). The right-hander went six innings, allowing four runs and striking out six. D.J. Houlton (3-3) started and lost for New Orleans, allowing five runs over his five-inning stint.
The Sounds will wrap up the regular season home slate with Thursday's 7:00 tilt against the Zephyrs. Southpaw Dave Williams (6-4, 4.61) will toe the rubber for Nashville. He will be opposed by right-hander Pete Munro (0-3, 5.40). It will be a Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark. All draft beverages will be only $1 until the end of the fifth inning.
