Five Run First Propels River Cats

The minor league's winningest team, the Sacramento River Cats scored five runs before they made an out Tuesday night on the way to a 5-1 win over Tucson at Raley Field. The River Cats improved to 89-49 with the win. The season series was evened at seven games apiece.

Pacific Coast League Rookie of the Year Bobby Crosby started the scoring with a two-run double off Sidewinder starter Andrew Good (3-4). Graham Koonce hammered his 31st home run of the season, a two-run shot over the center field wall for a 4-0 Sacramento lead. Mike Edwards went back to back with Koonce with a solo home run to complete the five-run first inning.

Tucson got on the board in the fifth inning when Brian Gordon doubled in Danny Ramirez. However the Sidewinders would not score again, producing just five hits in the loss.

Tucson fell to 70-68. The Sidewinders and River Cats meet again Wednesday night (7:05 p.m. start) in game four of the five-game set. Chris Capuano (9-4 3.12) will start for Tucson against Ed Yarnall (3-3 3.77).
