SEATTLE, WASH. - In the Rave Green's first competitive action of the the 2022 campaign, Seattle Sounders FC travels down to San Pedro Sula, Honduras for the first leg of its Scotiabank 2022 Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 matchup against F.C. Motagua at Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano (6:00 p.m. PT / FS2, TUDN, 1090 KJR AM).

The Rave Green start the tournament looking to make history, as no MLS team has ever won a Concacaf Champions League title. The club also looks to improve upon its last showing in the tournament, a first round exit to CD Olimpia via penalty kicks in 2020.

This marks the seventh appearance for Seattle in the tournament, which crowns the best team from North America, Central America and the Caribbean. Sounders FC has advanced to at least the Quaterfinals in four of its previous six appearances, including a run to the Semifinals in 2012-2013. This is the first matchup between the two sides.

Additionally, Sounders FC today announced the signing of 2021 Tacoma Defiance player Joe Hafferty to a short-term agreement ahead of tonight's match at F.C. Motagua, making him eligible for selection by Head Coach Brian Schmetzer this evening.

MLS clubs may sign non-First Team players within the organization to short-term agreements (up to four-day contracts) for Concacaf Champions League, AMWAY Canadian Championship, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and exhibition matches. An MLS club may sign a player to a maximum of four short-term agreements each season (maximum of 16 days).

Following Thursday's matchup, Motagua and Seattle meet for the second leg at Lumen Field on Thursday, February 24. The club then kicks off its MLS campaign three days later, hosting Nashville SC on Sunday, February 27 (5:00 pm. PT / FOX 13+, 950 KJR AM, 1360 El Rey AM).
