Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - Seattle Sounders FC and Orlegi Sports, the business entity that operates Liga MX side Santos Laguna, today announced the forging of a strategic alliance between the Rave Green and Orlegi Sports. Sounders FC Owner Adrian Hanauer and Orlegi Sports Chair Alejandro Irarragorri are set to share additional details this Monday, September 13 at 5:00 p.m. PT, as Seattle and Santos come together to host a community soccer rally and vaccination clinic at the Sea Mar Museum of Chicano/a/Latino/a Culture in Seattle's South Park neighborhood.
The rally and vaccination event is scheduled to run from 5:00-9:00 p.m. PT, as the teams join forces to celebrate the beautiful game, kick off Latinx Heritage Month activities and promote community health ahead of squaring off against one another on the pitch Tuesday evening in the 2021 Leagues Cup semifinals, battling for a spot in the championship match.
Located in Seattle's historic South Park neighborhood - in which 46.3 percent of the population identify as Hispanic or Latino - the Sea Mar Museum stands as a celebration of the rich history of Chicano/as and Latino/as in Washington State, and showcases history from post-war immigration to present day. Monday's event is designed both to invite the local community to celebrate the sport of soccer and its important cultural place and also to provide important vaccination education and opportunity in an area where vaccination rates are below average for King County.
Sounders FC alum and current Brand Ambassador Brad Evans is also set to join the event to help distribute soccer balls and to lend his skills and coaching tips to youth in attendance.
Vaccinations are being administered by Sea Mar Health, and each person receiving a vaccination at the clinic is being provided two free tickets to the next evening's Leagues Cup match between Sounders FC and Santos Laguna, and free soccer balls will be given to all youth attending - whether taking part in the vaccination clinic or not. Sea Mar Health is also offering $100 to each of the first 100 people who receive a vaccination.
Sounders FC and Santos Laguna are further donating four autographed jerseys apiece to the Sea Mar Museum, which will be used for a special Latinx Heritage Month promotion. Each week during Latinx Heritage Month - from September 15 through October 15 - those visiting the museum can be entered to win a jersey from either club.
As highlighted above, team ownership from both clubs are also planning at Monday's event to share additional information about their newly formed strategic alliance between Seattle Sounders FC and Orlegi Sports, the business entity that operates Santos Laguna, including exciting news about an upcoming collaborative community-focused project in Washington's Yakima Valley, where both clubs operate academy partnerships.
