Bridgeport Islanders News Release

The visiting Bridgeport Sound Tigers erupted for four first-period goals en route to a 6-2 win over the Binghamton Senators before 3,793 fans at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday night.

With their top two point-getters (Eric Boguniecki and Jeff Tambellini) out of the lineup the Sound Tigers had scoring contributions from six different players, all of whom had multi-point efforts. Jamie Johnson led the way with a four-point performance on a goal and three assists. Cam McCaffrey added a goal and two assists and Stephen Wood tallied his first Sound Tiger goal and set up another.

This was the last of eight games in the season series, which the Sound Tigers won six games to two. Bridgeport improved to 32-29-1-5 and Binghamton fell to 19-41-3-5. The Sound Tigers' win coupled with the Albany River Rats' shootout loss in Hamilton puts the Sound Tigers into a points tie with the River Rats in the battle for the East Division's fourth and final playoff spot. The Sound Tigers have a game in hand with 13 regular season games left on the schedule.

On Friday, the Sound Tigers snapped a 1-1 tie and broke the game open with a trio of goals in a span of just 2:05 late in the first period. Frans Nielsen opened the scoring with his 19th goal of the year 2:57 into the game when he redirected a shot by Wood past Binghamton goaltender Brian Elliott. After the Senators deadlocked the score on Jean-Francois David's third goal at 10:55 of the first the Sound Tigers took over. Steve Regier, Wood and McCaffrey all found the back of the net late in the first for a 4-1 advantage. Regier deflected a shot by Johnson for his 16th tally at 15:47, Wood roofed a shot at 16:22 and McCaffrey's second of the season on a wrist shot came at the 17:52 mark.

In the second period, the Sound Tigers stretched their lead to 5-1 on Johnson's net-finder, his fifth, 7:01 into the stanza. The Senators trimmed the lead back to three when Andrew Ebbett notched his 21st at 12:45 of the middle period. Jason Pitton answered with his eighth goal at 13:10 for a 6-2 Bridgeport cushion.

The Sound Tigers outshot the Senators 40-33 and goaltender Wade Dubielewicz, back after a stint with the parent club New York Islanders, kicked aside 31 shots. The Sound Tigers were 0-for-3 on the power play and the Senators were 1-for-4 on the man advantage.
