Rivermen Doubled Up by Milwaukee 4-2 at Home

Peoria , IL. (March 23, 2007) - The struggles continue for the Peoria Rivermen, failing to hang on to a 2-1 lead midway through the third period and eventually falling to the Milwaukee Admirals 4-2 in front of 4,091 at Carver Arena.

Following tonight's loss, Peoria is 2-7-0-1 in its last 10 games and have fallen three points behind the Iowa Stars for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division with 13 games to go.

The Admirals (35-23-4-8, 82 pts) opened the scoring at 4:45 of the first frame on the 14 th goal of the season by center Jason Guerriero. Defenseman Sheldon Brookbank stole the puck from a Rivermen player in the neutral zone and dished it to center Bracken Kearns. From the right point, Kearns whipped a pass to the high slot for Guerriero, who snapped a shot that sailed between the left post and right arm of Peoria netminder Chris Beckford-Tseu.

Peoria (33-27-2-5, 73 pts) netted the equalizer off of a Milwaukee turnover in its zone at 10:42 of the second session. Deep in the slot, center Trent Whitfield poked the puck away from an Admiral defenseman to left wing Michal Birner in the right face-off circle; Birner dropped the puck back to right wing Jon DiSalvatore, who wristed a shot that flew over the blocker of Milwaukee goaltender Karl Goehring. It was for DiSalvatore's 17th marker of the year and first tally in his last ten games.

The Rivermen took the lead on the man advantage at 7:51 of the final period. Right wing Mike Glumac began the play at the bottom of the left face-off circle, where he slid the puck to the right point for DiSalvatore, who quickly tapped it to center point. Defenseman Jamie Rivers, who missed the last four contests with an injury, had already wound-up and launched a one-timer that found its way through some traffic in front and between the legs of Goehring. It was the fourth goal of the season for Rivers.

Peoria's lead was shot-lived, however, as Milwaukee notched a power play goal of its own at 9:08 of the third stanza. Right wing Pat Leahy waited for a play to develop while behind the net and found left wing John Vigilante, who was streaking through the slot, where he quickly swatted the puck over the right pad of Beckford-Tseu for his eighth marker of the 2006-07 campaign.

The Admirals registered the eventual game-winning tally on Brookbank's 13th goal of the year. Amongst several players at the doorstep of Beckford-Tseu, the puck found its way to the stick of Brookbank, who lifted it over the outstretched right leg of the Rivermen goalie.

Milwaukee capped off the scoring with an empty net tally at 19:41 of the last frame. Leahy grabbed the loose puck at the left point of his zone and out skated the Rivermen defense to deposit his 10th marker of the season.

The Rivermen will play tomorrow night, Saturday, March 24 at 7:00 p.m. in Carver Arena against the Chicago Wolves, who are currently first place in the West Division. There will be a post game concert featuring Jars of Clay; also appearing will be Need to Breathe and Burlap to Cashmere.
