PORTLAND, ME - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, went 2 for 3 on the power play and 5 for 5 on the penalty kill en route to a 3-1 road win over the Portland Pirates Sunday in their last game of five in a row on the road. It was the first road win of the season for the Sound Tigers who are now 1-5 away from home.

The teams played a scoreless first period in which the Sound Tigers had to kill four Portland power plays, including two five-on-three advantages. The first Pirates' power play was a full, two-minute, two-man advantage; the second included 1:03 of five-on-three time with the first penalty interrupting the Sound Tigers' only power play of the frame.

The Sound Tigers took the first lead of the game by snapping an 0 for 29 power-play drought that dated back to October 23rd as Sean Bergenheim jammed a loose puck past Portland Goaltender Maxime Ouellet for his second goal of the season off assists from Justin Mapletoft and Eric Godard with 4:04 left in the second period.

Bergenheim doubled the lead to 2-0 on the Sound Tigers' next power play 5:17 into the third period off another assist from Mapletoft, as well as one by Chris Campoli.

The Pirates pulled to within 2-1 on Owen Fussey's second goal of the year off assists from Jonas Johansson and Trent Whitfield with 9:49 left to play. Portland then pulled Ouellet in favor of an extra attacker with just under a minute left to play, but Kevin Colley iced the win for the Sound Tigers with an empty-net goal off assists from Barrett Heisten and Mapletoft at 19:34. Heisten now assists in two straight games while Mapletoft leads the team with eight assists and nine points this season.

Bergenheim was the first star of the game, Mapletoft was the second, and Fussey was the third. Ouellet finished with 32 saves while Sound Tigers Netminder Dieter Kochan improved to 3-2 with 26 saves. The Sound Tigers outshot the Pirates 35-27.

The Sound Tigers will return home for a trio of games at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard versus the Norfolk Admirals next Saturday, November 13th at 7:05 p.m., the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins next Sunday, November 14th at 4:05 p.m. and the Providence Bruins the following Wednesday, November 17th at 7:05 p.m. All three games will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com.
