Pens extend winning streak to five games with 6-2 win over Norfolk

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Colby Armstrong recorded two goals and two assists and Michel Ouellet scored two goals during a four-goal third period as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins won their fifth game in a row with a 6-2 win over the Norfolk Admirals before a crowd of 7,809 on Sunday at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.

Chris Kelleher, Kris Beech, Tomas Surovy and Matt Hussey added two assists each in the win as the Penguins (6-4-1-1, 14 pts.) moved into a first-place tie with the Philadelphia Phantoms (7-2-0-0, 14 pts.). The Admirals, who have started their six-game road trip with two losses, saw their record fall to 6-4-0-1 (13 pts).

The Penguins took a 1-0 lead in the first period as Armstrong scored the first of his two power play goals with his first goal of the season at 12:57. But later in the period, Norfolk scored two goals during a five-minute power play to take a 2-1 lead. After the Penguins' Michel Ouellet was sent off for a five-minute high-sticking major, Matt Keith scored his third goal of the season 2:36 into the power play to tie the game at 1-1. The Admirals struck again on the power play as Ajay Baines scored 1:48 later with his third goal of the season at 18:49 to give Norfolk the lead.

Late in the second period, Armstrong scored his second goal of the game at 14:27 to tie the game at 2-2.

In the third period, the Penguins scored four unanswered goals, including two by Ouellet to take a 6-2 lead. Shane Endicott gave the Penguins a 3-2 lead as he scored his eighth goal of the season and third in the last three games at 6:58. The Penguins put the game out of reach as Ouellet scored two goals less than six minutes apart to take a 5-2 lead. He scored his sixth goal of the season at 10:50 and followed up with his seventh of the year at 16:16. In the final minute of regulation, Alain Nasreddine closed out the scoring with a power play goal at 19:15.

The Penguins scored three power play goals on 11 chances, while the Admirals scored twice on five attempts.

Andy Chiodo made 31 saves to improve his record to 2-2-1, while Adam Munro, who was making his 2004-05 season debut, stopped 24 of 30 shots in the loss.

The Penguins return to action on Friday when they visit the Philadelphia Phantoms at 7:05 p.m. at the Wachovia Spectrum.
