Cleveland Barons News Release
11/2/04 Hamilton 5 - Cleveland 1... The Barons allowed two short-handed goals and one power play tally in dropping the series-opener to the Bulldogs. Scoring for the Barons was Patrick Rissmiller. The Barons were outshot 41-29 in the game, and 17-6 in the second period in which they were out-scored 3-0. Yann Danis saved 28 shots on the night to lead the Bulldogs to victory.
11/5/04 Hamilton 3 - Cleveland 1... The Bulldogs used three power play goals to streak past the Barons for the second consecutive game. Nolan Schaefer played a great game for the Barons, saving 25 shots, but was given the loss. Patrick Rissmiller scored the Barons lone goal on the night. The Barons played a strong third period, out-shooting Hamilton 11-5, but fell short in their comeback.
11/6/04 Cleveland 4 - Hamilton 3 ot... Surging from their strong third period the night before, the Barons out-shot Hamilton 15-2 in the first period. Unfortunately for the Barons, those 2 shots were goals and Hamilton went to the first intermission with a 2-1 lead. But the Barons were able to score in every period, including an overtime stanza, to earn the win and snap a three-game losing streak. Christian Ehrhoff scored a power play goal in overtime to get the Barons the win. On the night, Ehrhoff had 2 goals, both power play tallies, on 9 shots, a season high for the Barons. Garrett Stafford, another Barons defenseman, scored a goal and added an assist. Riley Armstrong scored his first goal as a professional. The Barons scored a season-high three power play goals on the night.
11/7/04 Rochester 4 - Cleveland 1... The Barons played a solid game, but the defining moment came towards the end of the first period. Riley Armstrong and Garrett Stafford each took high-sticking majors giving the Americans an extended 5-on-3 power play. Able to score as many goals as possible in that situation, the Amerks edged out to a 2-0 lead. The Barons received their lone goal from Patrick Rissmiller. On the night, Nolan Schaefer stopped 32 shots on net.
Coming Up
11/9/04 vs. Edmonton - HP Pavilion (San Jose, home game)
The Barons will kick off their eight-game season series against the Edmonton Road Runners at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. The Barons will host the game at the San Jose Sharks home facility, the Barons parent club. The Road Runners moved to Edmonton from Toronto during the off-season. The Barons hosted the Road Runners in the best-of-three North Division Qualifying series during the AHL Playoffs last season. The Barons defeated the Road Runners in 3 games, including a Game 2 Barons win in double overtime. Nolan Schaefer posted a perfect 2-0-0 record against the Road Runners last season with a 1.50 goals against average and a .951 save percentage. Grant Stevenson leads the current Barons with 5 regular season points against the Road Runners. Aaron Gill scored his first professional goal against the Road Runners, which was the game-winner for the Barons. Mike Bishai led the Road Runners with five goals and three assists against the Barons during the regular season. The game will mark the Barons fourth game in five nights.
11/11/04 vs. Manitoba - National City Rink located in Gund Arena
The Barons will play their second game of the season against the Manitoba Moose. The Moose defeated the Barons 6-4 on October 16th, the Barons home opener, in the first meeting. In that game, Manitoba's Jason King recorded a hat trick. King currently leads the league with 12 goals, and his 17 points are tied with teammate Peter Sarno for the league lead. Marcel Goc had two goals and one assists for the Barons, including a penalty shot goal.
11/13/04 @ Hamilton - Copps Coliseum
The Barons are 1-2-0-0 against the Bulldogs this season. The two teams split the games in Hamilton over the past weekend. Patrick Rissmiller, Christian Ehrhoff, and Garrett Stafford all have three points against the Bulldogs this season to lead the Barons. Rissmiller and Ehrhoff each have two goals. Ehrhoff recorded an overtime game-winner on Saturday night's defeat of the Bulldogs. Tomas Plekanec has been a nuisance against the Barons this season. His 6 points on 2 goals and 4 assists lead the Bulldogs against the Barons. Yann Danis is 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average against the Barons.
Do You Know The Way To San Jose???
Gary Allen of Cleveland will travel with the team and WKNR personality Kenny Roda to San Jose, California for the Barons game against the Edmonton Road Runners on Tuesday, November 9th at 10:30pm EST. Gary will be flown out with the team next Monday and return on Wednesday night. Allen was the winner of the first ever "Do you know the way to San Jose Flyaway" promotion run by WKNR 850-AM, the radio flagship station of the Cleveland Barons.
Rhyno Gores His Way To Cleveland
WWE Superstar Rhyno will make his way to National City Rink at Gund Arena on Thursday, November 11th when the Barons play host to the Manitoba Moose. Rhyno will sign autographs prior to the game and drop a ceremonial puck. WWE will be on hand to promote their upcoming Survivor Series Pay-Per-View that will be held on Sunday, November 14th at Gund Arena. The WWE will award lucky fans with tickets and WWE merchandise. Rhyno, a RAW Superstar, is nicknamed the "Man-Beast" and his finish move is "The Gore".
College ID Night
The Barons will host a College ID Night on Thursday night. Students presenting a valid college ID can purchase a lower-bowl $21 ticket for just $5. The Barons will battle the Manitoba Moose on Thursday.
Take The Ford Out
While the Barons travel to San Jose, injured defenseman Scott Ford will continue his rehab in Cleveland. Ford will make the most of his time. On Monday, November 8th, Ford will have a question and answer session with the Cleveland Hockey Booster Club. On Wednesday, Ford will join several Cleveland celebrities at the Applebees Grill and Bar in Great Northern from 5-7pm. Ford will help Applebees raise funds for the Big Brother Big Sisters of Cleveland program.
Schedule Change
The Cleveland Barons will now host the Edmonton Road Runners on Tuesday, November 9th in San Jose, CA. at HP Pavilion, home of the San Jose Sharks. The game will start at 10:30pm EST and will be aired on WKNR 850-AM. Due to the new travel schedule, the game on Thursday, November 11th originally scheduled for 10:30am at National City Rink located in Gund Arena will now start at 7:00pm.
Barons Player of the Week
The Cleveland Barons Player of the Week is right wing Patrick Rissmiller. Rissmiller, who typically lined up as a left wing or center last season, is playing on a line with Ryane Clowe and Marcel Goc. He recorded one point in all four games this week. In total, he recorded three goals and one assist. His three goals came on nine shots.
National City Breakaway with the Barons
The Cleveland Barons will host the second National City Breakaway with the Barons presented by SoftRock 102.1 WDOK and Marc's on Monday, November 15th at Michael A. Ries Ice Rink in Parma. The Barons will hold a one-hour practice that is open to the public. Following the practice, the Barons will take the ice with the fans. It is the perfect opportunity to get autographs from and photographs with the team. Michael A. Ries Ice Rink is located on 5000 Forestwood Drive in Parma.
Interesting Statistics Of The Week
The Cleveland Barons have played two previous regular season games at an alternate NHL rink. The two previous games came in Columbus at Nationwide Arena where the Blue Jackets play against the Syracuse Crunch. The Barons are 1-1-0-0 in those two games against the Crunch.
A Special Team
The Barons have scored 16 of their 33 goals via special teams play. In all, the Barons have 13 power play goals and three short-handed goals. Also, two of the Barons 33 goals have come at full strength on an empty net. The Barons are sixth in the league with a 20.31% conversion rate on power plays.
Patzold Strikes Gold
Dimitri Patzold has been stellar in his last eleven AHL starts dating back to last season. In those games, Patzold owns seven wins, three losses, and one shootout loss (7-3-1). Those eleven games encapsulated 665:21 and Patzold has a .935 (357/382) and a 2.25 goals against average. On the season, Patzold is 4-1-1 with a 2.29 goals against average and a .930 save percentage. Patzold is tied for 15th in save percentage and tenth in goals against average among league goaltenders.
Oh My Goc!
With 12 points on the season, Marcel Goc is tied for 15th in the league and leads the Barons in points. His 7 goals also lead the Barons and they tie him for the fifth most in the league. His three short-handed goals lead the league.
The Best Defense Is A Good Offense
Christian Ehrhoff, a defenseman, leads the Barons in shots with 35 on the season. Those 35 shots are tied for fourth among all AHL defensemen. Last season, he averaged nearly three shots per contest in 27 games with the Barons. Ehrhoff led the Barons with 36 shots in 9 games during last season's Playoffs.
Staff Report
Defenseman Garrett Stafford recorded 1 goal and 2 assists in his trip to Hamilton. For the 2004 Barons Rookie of the Year, they were his first points of the season. His goal was on the power play.
