
Sound Tigers Sign Two To PTOs

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Feb. 26, 2014) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today that forwards Joey Martin and Justin Mercier have both been signed to professional tryout agreements (PTOs).
Martin, 25, is in his third professional season after playing four years collegiately at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He played the past two seasons in the ECHL with the Toledo Walleye and saw AHL action with both the Houston Aeros (eight games) and Texas Stars (four games). Martin has played 52 games with the Stockton Thunder (ECHL) in 2013-14 and has 51 points (16 goals, 35 assists).
Mercier, 26, was a sixth-round (168th overall) draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2005. He skated in nine NHL games for the Avalanche in 2009-10 and scored his lone NHL goal during that time. He also played three full AHL seasons with the Lake Erie Monsters. He spent 2012-13 overseas in Germany, where he skated for the Wolfsburg Grizzly Adams of the Deutsche Eishockey League. Mercier began this season with the Idaho Steelheads in the ECHL before signing a PTO with the Iowa Wild earlier this season. In 15 games with Iowa, Mercier had five points (two goals, three assists). He also notched 18 points (10 goals, eight assists) in 32 games with Idaho this season.
