Binghamton's Rally Comes up Short

TORONTO, ON - The B-Sens traveled to Toronto for an 11:00a.m. meeting with the Marlies and lost 4-2 in front of a crowd of 6,581. Binghamton, who never led, went just one for six on the man advantage while the Marlies used a shorthanded tally as well as a power-play goal to push past the visitors. Andrew Hammond started in net for the sixth consecutive game and allowed three goals on 28 shots faced to drop to 17-12-3 for the season.
The teams traded 10 shots on net apiece in the opening 20 minutes with both goaltenders playing solid. Kenny Ryan scored shorthanded for the Marlies with just 14 seconds remaining in the period to give Toronto the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Binghamton started the second period a man down as Darren Kramer was whistled for roughing following the final horn of the first period giving the Marlies a power-play chance. Just 46 seconds in, Johnson City native Jerry D'Amigo scored his 15th marker of the year to extend the Marlies lead to 2-0. Just 33 seconds later, Matt Puempel took a feed from Mark Stone and beat Toronto goaltender Drew MacIntyre for his 20th goal of his rookie campaign. The Marlies regained its two-goal cushion at the 7:18 spot of the period when Mike Duco picked up his second tally of the year making it 3-1. Stone cut the lead to 3-2 on a power-play strike at 16:46 to send the Sens to the locker room down just one goal.
Despite beginning the final period with 3:30 worth of power-play time, Binghamton failed to add the equalizer. Josh Leivo added an empty-net goal with less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation to push the final score to 4-2.
MacIntyre finished with 34 saves on 36 shots faced to earn his 24th victory of the year. D'Amigo finished with a goal and an assist for the Marlies. Both Puempel and Stone finished with a goal and an assist for Binghamton.
Binghamton travels to St. John's this weekend for back-to-back contests at the Mile One Centre versus the IceCaps with both games slated to start at 7:30p.m. NST (6:00p.m. EST) . Fans can listen live on either Oldies 96.9FM or WINR 680AM or by watching at AHLlive.com.
