
Sound Tigers Sign D Jay Leach To PTO

BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have signed Defenseman Jay Leach to a professional tryout contract.
Leach 24, joins the Sound Tigers from the ECHL's Trenton Titans with whom he has two goals, 11 assists, 13 points and 40 penalty minutes in 25 games this season. The 6'4'' 220-pounder from Cranston, Rhode Island has also notched one assist and four penalty minutes in three games with the ECHL's Long Beach Ice Dogs and appeared in three games with the AHL's Providence Bruins this season. Leach spent most of last season with the ECHL's Augusta Lynx but did appear in nine games with the AHL's Springfield Falcons. He played the entire 2001-02 season with the ECHL's Mississippi Sea Wolves and spent the previous four years, 1997-2001, with Providence College of Hockey East.
Leach is expected to join the Sound Tigers for tonight's 7:35 p.m. road game versus Springfield. The Sound Tigers will host the Hershey Bears at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard tomorrow at 4:05 p.m.
If the Sound Tigers beat Hershey tomorrow, all fans can redeem their ticket stub from that game for a free ticket to this coming Wednesday's 7:05 p.m. home game versus the Portland Pirates. Ticket stubs will be redeemable at the Harbor Yard box office on a one-for-one basis for a ticket of equal or lesser value to Wednesday's game.
Tomorrow will also be a "Slap Shot Sunday". Children who sign up at the Barnum Financial Group Sound Tigers Kids' Club table on the arena concourse will have the opportunity to take an on-ice shot on goal following the game. There will also be a Stamford Volvo Shootout and a MasterCard youth-hockey mini-game featuring the Greater New Haven Warriors Mite house team during the intermissions, and Tomi Pettinen will be signing autographs on the concourse after tomorrow's contest.
Both of this weekend's games will be web cast live at www.soundtigers.com. Tomorrow's game will also be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM pending the completion of University of Connecticut basketball.
Sound Tigers individual-game tickets are on sale at the Harbor Yard box office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on all game days, as well as on-line at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling Ticketmaster at 203-368-1000.
