Game Notes...
BLUELINE POWER: Defenseman Michel Periard is one of the top rookie leaders in power-play points. The freshman co-leads in PP points (15) and assists (11).
THREE-N-THREE: The Rampage have played four sets of playing three games in as many nights. So far, San Antonio is 4-7-1-0 after playing three sets (of 10) of three-games in three-night sessions heading into their fifth round tonight against Hartford.
SHVIDKI GETTING TRICKY: All-Star forward Denis Shvidki recorded the team's first hat trick this season against Norfolk on Feb. 7, including the game winner. In fact, the right wing has a three-game scoring streak (4-1=5) since Feb. 6, while logging six points (4-2=6) in his last five games.
HEY NOW...YOU'RE AN ALL-STAR: Right wing Denis Shvidki replaced left wing Eric Beaudoin in the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic, held at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Feb. 8-9. Shvidki played for Planet USA, and recorded an assist. He participated in the 2001 AHL All-Star Classic in Wilkes-Barre as a 20-year-old rookie, and set a league All-Star record with a five-point game. He becomes the second Rampage player to represent San Antonio in the annual event (2003: Filip Novak-PlanetUSA). Beaudoin was among 21 skaters and three goaltenders named to the Canadian roster, but became unavailable due to recall to the NHL's Florida Panthers on Jan. 19.
GO, GO, GOREN: Right wing Lee Goren has scored at least a point in five of his last six games. Prior to his scoreless outing on Thursday, the captain has recorded 4-3=7 pts. in five games, which matches two previous season-streak highs, which he captured 4-1-5 totals (including 2 PPG, 2 SHG) from Nov. 7-20, and 3-7-10 totals from Nov. 28-Jan.8 (missed 11 games to injury).
NEDO CENTERING IN: Of the 18 games center Vaclav Nedorost has played (missed 10 games w/ recall to Florida; 19 to injury), he has improved his scoring from 2-2=4 pts. in his first nine games to 5-4=9 pts. in his last nine games.
ROAD WARRIORS: Having started on Wed., Feb. 4, the Rampage play 14 of the month's 15 games on the road, when the San Antonio Livestock Exhibition and Rodeo takes over the SBC Center. The Rampage have the least amount of road games to date with 20. Binghamton is the next lowest with 21.
THE WEST WING: San Antonio has played 34 games against a team in the West Division this season. The Rampage, who are 13-16-5-0 against West Division opponents this season, will play 60 games against the West Division this year. In total, San Antonio will face a North Division team 12 times (3-4-0-0) while playing teams from the Atlantic (1-0-1-0), including tonight's game against Hartford, and East (2-2-0-0) Divisions on four occasions.
NO STOPPIN' GREEN: Before his recall to Florida (Feb. 9), center Mike Green had an eight game scoring streak compiling 14 points (4g, 10a) from Nov. 20-Dec. 12âwhich leads the team this season. While his streak was one game shy of teammate Ryan Jardine's (9 games: Mar. 20-Apr. 6, 2003) who owns the landmark, Green has eight different scoring streaks to date tallying for the club's scoring lead (34 pts.).
LEADER OF THE PACK: Netminder Travis Scott leads all AHL netminders in saves with 1166. His 17-17-5 record is two wins shy of sharing the lead among AHL goaltenders. Scott also ranks second in minutes played (2356). In fact, Scott has notched his 10th win in only 15 games playedâseven fewer than former Rampage netminder Chris Mason (1/8/03).
A VIEW TO A PENALTY KILL: San Antonio's penalty killing unit has been special as of late. Having a perfect three-game penalty-killing spree (8/8), the Rampage have killed all but one of their man-disadvantages in their last four games (13 of 14; 92.9%).
