Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, were shutout 1-0 at home by the Hershey Bears Sunday in front of 6,446 fans at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard.

One day after they were 2 for 4 on the power play, 5 for 5 on the penalty kill and scored two shorthanded goals in a 5-3 road win over the Springfield Falcons, the Sound Tigers struggled on special teams as Hershey scored the game's only goal on the power play en route to a 1 for 8 outing on the advantage while denying all five Bridgeport opportunities.

Steve Brule notched the Bears' team-leading 22nd goal of the season 3:21 into the third period off assists from Pascal Trepanier and Martin Hlinka to make it 1-0. It marked this season's latest first goal of the game in a contest involving the Sound Tigers re-setting a mark that was established just four days ago when Springfield opened the scoring 3:00 into the third period of a 4-1 win at Harbor Yard on Wednesday.

The Sound Tigers called a timeout and pulled Goaltender Dieter Kochan in favor of an extra attacker with 1:26 left to play but were put shorthanded when Justin Mapletoft took a major penalty for an inadvertent high-stick seven seconds after the ensuing face-off. They did manage to pull Kochan again but were unable to score.

Brule was the first star of the game. Kochan was second star with 35 saves as the Bears had a 36-18 shots on goal advantage, including 17-6 in the third period. Hershey's leading scorer Eric Perrin was the third star. Bears Netminder Tom Lawson made 18 saves for his fourth shutout of the season.

The Sound Tigers will host the last of this season's four weekday matinees when the Worcester IceCats make their only visit of the regular season this Tuesday at 4:05 p.m. The Sound Tigers will also host the Portland Pirates for the only time this year Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Both of this week's games will be web cast live at www.soundtigers.com.

Sound Tigers individual-game tickets are on sale at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard box office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on all game days, as well as on-line at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling Ticketmaster at 203-368-1000.
