Bridgeport Islanders News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, rallied from a 3-0, second-period deficit to beat the Eastern Conference's top team the Manchester Monarchs 4-3 in overtime on the road Saturday.

The Sound Tigers dominated the first period outshooting Manchester 19-5 but trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes as Brad Smyth one-timed a cross-ice, seeing-eye feed from Michael Cammalleri, his team-leading 51st assist and 91st point, for a power-play goal at the 10:55 mark. Dustin Brown also assisted on Smyth's 17th marker of the season.

The Monarchs tripled their lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals 1:25 apart just shy of the mid-point of the second period. First, Dustin Brown stick-handled through traffic and pushed a backhander around Sound Tigers goaltender Wade Dubielewicz for his 27th of the season off assists from Beau Geisler and Cammalleri at the 8:14 mark. Then, George Parros took a nice feed from David Steckel and raced in alone from the Sound Tigers' blue line to score his ninth of the season, a shorthanded tally, at 9:39 with Mike Weaver earning the second assist.

The Sound Tiger got on the scoreboard at 3-1 when Cole Jarrett scored his sixth goal of the season, on the power play, off assist from Ryan Caldwell and Rob Collins with 5:23 left in the second period. The goal was Jarrett's third in the last four games and fifth in the last seven contests. The assist was also the team-leading 31st for Collins.

The Sound Tigers pulled to within striking distance at 3-2 when Justin Mapletoft blasted a slap-shot past Manchester netminder Adam Hauser for his tenth goal of the season off assists from Steve Regier and Caldwell 4:09 into the third period. Mapletoft then tied the game with exactly four minutes left in regulation when he floated a wrist shot from the left wing for his second goal of the game and 11th of the season off assists from Eric Godard and Caldwell. The third assist by Caldwell equaled a Sound Tigers single-game record.

After the Monarchs took the first two shots of the extra session, the Sound Tigers answered with a pair with Collins winning the game on the second attempt taking a feed from Regier and pulling the puck around a defender at the top of the slot to whip home his team-leading 21st goal of the season, his fifth game-winner, with 1:58 left on the clock. It was also the team-best 52nd point for Collins.

Collins was the first star of the game, Mapletoft the second and Brown the third. Dubielewicz made 25 saves to earn the win while Hauser made 36 in a losing effort as the Sound Tigers had a 40-28 shots on goal advantage. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 4 on the power play while Manchester was 1 for 3.

The Sound Tigers will finish a stretch of four straight road games when they visit the Albany River Rats tomorrow at 4 p.m. They will also host the Norfolk Admirals at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island this coming Wednesday, March 23rd at 7:05 p.m. before returning home to Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard to host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins next Friday, March 25th at 7:35 p.m. and the Hartford Wolf Pack next Saturday, March 26th at 7:05 p.m. All four games will be web cast live at www.soundtigers.com.
