Binghamton Senators News Release

The Binghamton Senators dropped their second straight shootout on Friday night 3-2 to the visiting Hershey Bears before a sell out crowd of 4,710 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Hershey flew out of the gate and put together a two-goal lead mid-way through the opening period with goals by Ryan Steeves and defenseman Martin Wilde.

Binghamton was able to cut the lead to 2-1 thanks to a power-play tally by Brian Pothier. Jason Spezza and Antoine Vermette picked up the assists on the goal.

The Sens tied the game 6:39 into the second period when Chris Neil picked up his first goal since joining the club March 2nd.

The two teams skated to a scoreless third period followed by a scoreless overtime period and headed into a shootout.

Brett Clark scored a goal on the Bears' ninth shot and Denis Hamel was denied on the Senators final attempt as Hershey escaped with the bonus point in the East Division standings.

Both goaltenders played well as Billy Thompson stopped 39 of 41 shots for the Sens and Hershey's Peter Budaj turned away 43 of 45 offerings.

Binghamton was 1 for 3 on the power play while the Bears finished the contest 0 for 6 with the man advantage.

The Sens are back in action on Saturday night as they welcome the Philadelphia Phantoms to town for a 7:05 p.m. tilt. It will be Hall of Fame Night with Don Biggs, Dallas Gaume and Brad Jones being inducted into the Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame in a pre-game ceremony.
