Bridgeport Islanders News Release

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers' season came to an end this week. The Sound Tigers, in the playoff hunt until the final weekend of the season, fell short and ended up two points behind Albany when all was said and done. The Sound Tigers were eliminated from playoff contention in a loss at Hartford on Friday.

Weekly recap: With their top few scorers out of the lineup, the Sound Tigers were shut out for only the fourth and fifth times this season - in back to back games (6-0 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday and 3-0 at Hartford on Friday). Bridgeport lost 3-1 at home to Philadelphia on Saturday and defeated Norfolk 5-3 in the season finale on Sunday at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard.

Steve Regier had the lone Sound Tiger goal in Saturday's loss and had a goal and two assists in Sunday's win. Goaltender Michael Mole made 31 saves in the victory over Norfolk. Masi Marjamaki's shorthanded tally was the go-ahead goal in the third period of Sunday's win.

In the standings: The Sound Tigers ended the season with a record of 36-37-1-6 and finished fifth in the East Division.

Up on the Island: Sound Tiger alums Trent Hunter and Bruno Gervais both scored and former Sound Tiger goalie Rick DiPietro got the win in the parent club New York Islanders' playoff game in Buffalo on Saturday. The Isles beat the Sabres 3-2 to even the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at a game apiece. ... Bridgeport's top scorer, Jeff Tambellini, and starting goaltender, Wade Dubielewicz, ended the AHL's regular season with the Islanders and remain with the big club in the post season.

Newcomer: Defenseman Andrew MacDonald joined the Sound Tigers this past week and skated in the final three games of the season.

Fan Appreciation: Sound Tigers' fans took home a team photo, courtesy of the Connecticut Post, at Sunday's season finale.
