Admirals Set Sail for Calder Cup Playoffs

NORFOLK, VA - Last week, the Norfolk Admirals wrapped up the regular season and made plans for this week's start of the Calder Cup Playoffs. On Friday night in Philadelphia, Pierre Parenteau had a goal and three assists as the Admirals stopped a four-game winless streak with a 6-3 victory over the Phantoms. On Saturday night in Albany, a see-saw battle that saw each team lead three times ended with the Admirals defeating the River Rats 6-5. The win was Norfolk's fiftieth of the 2006-07 season. The Admirals concluded the regular season on Sunday afternoon at Bridgeport with a 5-3 setback to the Sound Tigers.

The Admirals finished the regular season in third place in the East Division. Norfolk will face the second-seeded Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in Series D of the East Division Semifinals. Game 1 and Game 2 of the series will be in Wilkes-Barre this Friday and Saturday night at 7:05. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is the top affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and has a secondary affiliation with the Edmonton Oilers.

TEAM NOTEBOOK

- Norfolk set all-time highs in wins (50), points (108), goals scored (301) and power play efficiency (21.1%).

- The Admirals finished with the best power play in the American Hockey League (21.1%).

- With a goal and two assists, Martin St. Pierre finished 2006-07 with 72 assists and 99 points, breaking the previous franchise records of 50 assists and 73 points that he established in 2005-06.

- St. Pierre has quickly ascended the Norfolk all-time scoring list with 172 points in just 142 games as an Admiral. He finished this season ranked third on the all-time list - one point away from tying Marty Wilford (173 points in 318 games) for second and three points away from tying Ajay Baines (175 points in 409 games) for the most points all-time in a Norfolk Admirals uniform.

- Troy Brouwer's 41 goals will go down in Norfolk's franchise record book as the most in a single season in Norfolk Admirals history, eclipsing Rene Bourque's total of 33 in 2004-05 and Brandon Bochenski's 33 from this season. Brouwer also tied the single-season mark for power play goals with 20.

- Norfolk had four players finish in the top 20 of AHL scoring this season (Martin St. Pierre T-2nd, Troy Brouwer T-9th, Pierre Parenteau T-9th, Kris Versteeg T-15th). Last season, St. Pierre became the first player in Norfolk Admirals history to finish in the top 20 of scoring.

- Defenseman Jordan Hendry was the only Admiral to appear in all 80 games this season. He was one of ten rookies and 23 players overall to do so in the AHL this season.

- Hendry's team-leading +20 rating was the second-best plus/minus rating in a single season in franchise history.

- The Admirals had a total attendance of 187,343 over 40 games this season for an average nightly attendance of 4684. The attendance increased 11.3% from last season and was the second-highest attendance in Norfolk Admirals history.
