Sound Tigers Lose 5-2 In Norfolk

NORFOLK, VA - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 5-2 on the road to the Norfolk Admirals Friday in the second game of seven straight on the road.

Norfolk took a 2-0 lead with a pair of quick first-period goals. James Wisniewski scored his third of the season just 1:17 in off assists from Matt Keith and Rene Bourque, and Travis Moen notched his sixth at the 6:23 mark off assists from Jim Vandermeer and Keith. Vandermeer took the initial shot on Moen's goal, but Rob Collins of the Sound Tigers got a stick on the puck which was redirected a second time by Moen.

Returning to the ice after missing six straight games with a groin injury, Barrett Heisten pulled the Sound Tigers to within 2-1 with his third goal of the season just 1:45 after Moen had doubled the Admirals' lead. Veteran Brendan Yarema, playing his first game as a Sound Tiger, earned the lone assist on the play.

Norfolk regained the two-goal lead and increased it to a three with power-play tallies early and late in the second period. Keith scored his ninth goal of the season 1:48 into the middle frame off assists from Pavel Vorobiev and Mikhail Yakubov to make it 3-1. Vorobiev then notched his seventh with 4.2 seconds left off assists from Vandermeer and Eric Nickulas to make it 4-1.

Marty Wilford added yet another power-play goal, his second marker of the season, upping the lead to 5-1 6:22 into the third period off assists from Yakubov and Keith.

Ryan Kraft scored one last goal, his sixth of the season, to pull the Sound Tigers to within 5-2 with 23.7 seconds left to play off assists from Heisten and Chris Campoli.

Keith was the first star of the game, Yakubov the second and Vorobiev the third. Admirals goaltender Michael Leighton made 23 saves for his eighth win of the season while Wade Dubielewicz made 32 saves in a losing effort for the Sound Tigers who were outshot 37-25.

Norfolk dominated on special teams going 3 for 4 on the power play and 5 for 5 on the penalty kill

The Sound Tigers will visit the Admirals again tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in the third of the seven straight road games The game will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com beginning at 7:15 p.m.
