Bridgeport Islanders News Release

WORCESTER, MA - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 4-2 on the road to the Worcester IceCats Saturday in the final game of a stretch in which they played three games in as many nights, including two on the road.

For the ninth time this season, and second time in as many nights, the Sound Tigers played a scoreless first period, but Worcester took the lead with a pair of goals in the middle frame. First, Dennis Wideman scored his sixth of the season at the exact mid-point of the game off assists from Mike Glumac and Aaron MacKenzie. Then, Jon DiSalvatore blocked a shot at his own blue line, picked up the loose puck and raced the length of the ice before firing a wrist shot over the glove-side shoulder of Sound Tigers Goaltender Dieter Kochan for his seventh goal of the year, tying him for the team lead, to make it 2-0.

The IceCats upped their lead to 3-0 on a pretty play 3:25 into the third period as Mike Stuart scored his first goal of the season off assists from Bryan Ramsay and Robin Gomez.

The Sound Tigers made a game of it with a pair of third-period power-play goals. Justin Mapletoft notched his fourth goal and team-leading 14th point of the season off assists from Bruno Gervais and Sean Bergenheim at the 5:57 mark, and Justin Papineau, who once played in Worcester, scored his fifth of the year of assists from Rob Collins, who is now on a four-game scoring streak, and Keith Aldridge.

Unfortunately for the Sound Tigers, Worcester's Johnny Pohl scored his third goal of the season just 34 seconds after Mapletoft had made it 3-1 with Brendan Brooks assisting on the play. The Sound Tigers also lost any chance for a rally when another former IceCat Jim Campbell was assessed a match penalty for elbowing with 1:46 left to play.

MacKenzie was the first star of the game, Stuart the second and DiSalvatore the third. Kochan made 18 saves in a losing effort while Alfie Michaud won his first appearance of the season for Worcester with 22 stops. The Sound Tigers notched their fifth straight shots on goal advantage at 24-22. They were also 2 for 4 on the power play and 4 for 4 on the penalty kill.

The Sound Tigers will return home to host the Norfolk Admirals this Wednesday, December 1st at 11:05 a.m. in the second-annual "Cool Fun 101" educationally-themed morning game.
