
Aubin stops 30 shots, earns win in Maple Leafs debut

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs dropped a 5-1 decision to the St. John's Maple Leafs in front of the largest home crowd this season. Jean-Sebastien Aubin stopped 30 of 31 shots in his Maple Leafs debut in front of 8,540 at Copps Coliseum on Friday evening.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring less than a minute into the game on a goal by Michael Lambert. Lambert fed Trevor Daley at the point then stood in front to bury the rebound through the legs of goalie Jean-Sebastien Aubin for his second of the season. The goal came only 47 seconds into the first period.
St. John's tied the game six minutes later on a wrap-around goal by Nathan Barrett. The goal was Barrett's second of the season and came at 6:39 of the first period.
The Maple Leafs would take a 2-1 lead 8:37 into the second period on a breakaway goal by Jeremy Williams. Williams took a pass from Carlo Colaiacovo and skated in alone on goalie Yann Danis, firing it high on the glove side into the net.
Late in the second the Leafs added to their lead on the power play when Matt Stajan stuffed in his fourth of the season from a scrum in front of the net.
Hamilton held the edge in shots after two periods, 21-17, but trailed 3-1 on the scoreboard.
In the third the Leafs would make it 4-1 as forward Brad Leeb potted his second goal of the season. The goal came at 13:14 and Kris Newbury and Kyle Wellwood each drew an assist.
With less than two minutes left the Leafs scored on a seven-minute power play. Kyle Wellwood one-timed a David Ling pass into the net past Danis for his team-leading 11th goal of the season.
Earning the win for the Maple Leafs was Jean-Sebastien Aubin, who stopped 30 of 31 shots in his first game of the season. Yann Danis stopped 27 shots in a losing cause for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs' next action will take place on Saturday, November 27th when they will again host the St. John's Maple Leafs at Copps Coliseum. Game time will be 7:00pm and fans can listen to all the action live at www.hamiltonbulldogs.com or AM 820-CHAM.
