Sound Tigers Keep Streaks Alive

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, tied the Hershey Bears 2-2 at home Saturday to extend their unbeaten-in-regulation streaks to 16 games overall at 13-0-3-1 and nine games at home at 6-0-2-1. They are also unbeaten in any manner in their last 15 games at 12-0-3.

Hershey opened the scoring on Brett Clark's third goal of the season 10:02 into the game off an assist from Mikhail Kuleshov, but the Sound Tigers tied the game at 1-1 with 1:18 left in the first period on Derek Bekar's seventh goal of the season off assists from Eric Manlow and Jeff Hamilton.

Manlow gave the Sound Tigers a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal, his second goal of the season, 2:47 into the second period off assists from Rob Collins and Hamilton.

Hershey tied the game with 5:39 left in the third period on Eric Perrin's seventh goal of the season off assists from D.J. Smith and Sheldon Keefe.

Hershey remains one of just two AHL teams, along with the Manitoba Moose, the Sound Tigers have played but never beaten during the regular season. The Sound Tigers are now 0-5-3 all-time versus the Bears.

The Sound Tigers were 1 for 2 on the power play and 1 for 1 on the penalty kill in a game that had just three penalties for a total of six minutes all of which were called in the second period.

Hershey had a 36-31 shots on goal advantage including 10-7 in the third period and 4-1 in overtime. Sound Tigers Goaltender Dieter Kochan extended his personal unbeaten-in-regulation streak to 11 games at 7-0-3-1 with a 34-save effort while Peter Budaj stopped 29 shots for the Bears.

Manlow was the first star of the game, Hamilton the second, and Perrin the third.

The Sound Tigers will host the Hartford Wolf Pack tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. The game will be web cast at www.soundtigers.com. Before the main contest, the Bridgeport and Hartford Fire Departments will face-off in a charity hockey game to benefit ‚¬Å“Swim Across The Sound ‚¬Â at 1 p.m. Tickets for the charity game cost $17.50 and include admission to the Sound Tigers game versus the Wolf Pack.

Tomorrow will also be ‚¬Å“Police & Firefighter Appreciation Day ‚¬Â and ‚¬Å“New Haven County Appreciation Day ‚¬Â with specially-priced tickets available to Police Officers and Firefights or New Haven residents who show proper identification or proof of residency at Bridgeport ‚¬â„¢s Arena at Harbor Yard box office. Fans who wear New Haven sports jerseys can also purchase specially-priced tickets tomorrow. And , the New Haven Traveling Hockey Museum will be on display
