Sound Tigers Beat Belleville in Comeback Win
March 3, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Belleville Senators News Release
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers erased a two-goal deficit as they beat the Belleville Senators 4-2 Saturday night at the Yardmen Arena.
Ben Sexton and Nick Paul scored for Belleville while Marcus Hogberg made 23 saves. Bridgeport's Eamon McAdam stopped 23 shots while Parker Wotherspoon (2), Josh Ho-Sang and Ben Holmstrom scored.
The Senators had an early chance to take the lead as they received a full two-minute 5-on-3 power play and fired close to 10 shots on McAdam but couldn't find a way past the Sound Tigers netminder.
But they finally broke the deadlock at 14:16 through Sexton's eighth of the year as he redirected a Macoy Erkamps past McAdam. It was 2-0 Belleville before the end of the second as Paul bagged his 11th of the season as he scored from the slot after gathering a loose puck on the power play.
The Sound Tigers found a breakthrough in the second on the man advantage to cut into the Sens lead as Ho-Sang fired a loose puck past Hogberg after Andre Benoit's initial shot had deflected towards the corner where Ho-Sang was lurking at 7:06.
Heading into the third period down 2-1, Bridgeport scored three times to scratch out a win. Wotherspoon's first of the night at 2:10 tied the game before he notched the game-winner at 15:24 on the power play after Chlapik had been penalized for boarding. Both of Wotherspoon's goals were deflected past Hogberg.
Holmstrom sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 1:24 to play and secure a 2-0 season series win over Belleville.
The Senators return to action Sunday at 3pm as they host the Toronto Marlies. A very limited number of tickets are still available.
