Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack Saturday afternoon 6-2 in their final game of the season at the XL Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Adam Payerl, Zach Senyshyn, Peter Cehlarik, Ryan Fitzgerald, Josh Hennessy and Colby Cave while Jordan Binnington earned his 13th win of the season in net.
Newcomer Brian Ward, who signed a PTO prior to the game, created a turnover to help Providence strike first. He stole the puck behind the net and immediately centered it to Payerl out in front. Payerl beat Hartford goalie Chris Nell top right corner for his fifth goal of the season and the P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at 9:28. Less than three minutes later, Senyshyn doubled the lead with his eighth goal of the season. Tommy Cross fired a low slap-shot towards Nell that Senyshyn deflected in at 11:49, and Providence brought a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
Midway through the second period, the P-Bruins scored again in a similar fashion to their second goal. After Josh Hennessy won the face-off out to Kenny Agostino, Agostino sent a cross-ice pass out to Chris Breen at the blueline. Breen fired a slap-shot that Cehlarik deflected from the top of the left circle and in for his ninth goal of the season. Hubert Labrie tried to change the momentum by fighting Payerl, but Payerl recorded a takedown and Providence led 3-0 into the second intermission.
The P-Bruins continued their rout in the third period thanks to their top line. Austin Czarnik fed Fitzgerald perfectly with a centering pass through the crease, and all Fitzgerald had to do was get his stick down to score his 13th goal of the season at 10:18 and make things 4-0 Providence. Just 1:05 later, Hennessy scored his ninth goal of year by deflecting Cross's shot in front by Nell to make it 5-0 P-Bruins. Ryan Sproul and Gabriel Fontaine scored late to break up Binnington's shutout bid, but Cave's sixth goal of the season off a beautiful feed from Colton Hargrove at 18:13 secured a 6-2 P-Bruins victory.
Binnington stopped 31 of 33 shots while Nell stopped 27 of 33. Providence was 0-1 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill. Providence concludes their three-game weekend tomorrow afternoon at the Dunk when they take on the Springfield Thunderbirds at 3:05pm.
