
Soularie's Cycle Powers Kernels to 8-5 Win in Lansing

Lansing, MI - Cedar Rapids left fielder Alerick Soularie hit for the cycle and scored three runs to lead the Kernels to an 8-5 win over the Lansing Lugnuts on Saturday evening. Soularie tripled in the first, singled in the fourth, doubled in the seventh and homered to lead off the eighth as part of the franchise's first cycle since Gabe Jacobo's in May of 2009. With the win and a Wisconsin loss to Peoria, the Kernels are now two games up in the West Division standings.
Brent Headrick dealt for Cedar Rapids, earning his fifth win of the season with 5.2 innings of two-run ball. The southpaw struck out nine and took a no-hitter into the fifth, going on to scatter four hits and a walk. He threw 61 strikes on 89 pitches and piled up 18 whiffs while working at a 58% ground ball rate.
Soularie tripled to lead off the first and scored on a Christian Encarnacion-Strand RBI groundout one pitch later. The Kernels added another run in the second as Pat Winkel and Will Holland traded places with doubles, then Soularie singled home Winkel in the fourth to make it 3-0.
Leading 3-2 heading into the seventh, Soularie doubled then Encarnacion-Strand and Aaron Sabato drew back-to-back walks. Yunior Severino lined a two-run double into right-center to put Cedar Rapids up 5-2. Four batters later, Wander Javier was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to plate another run.
Soularie lined a solo home run out to right to complete the cycle in the eighth. Holland brought home the final Kernels run with an RBI triple rocketed into right-center.
Game six of the series is set for a 1:05 pm ET start on Sunday afternoon in Lansing.
