Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Davenport, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits dropped their sixth-straight game following a 7-3 loss to the Beloit Sky Carp on Saturday at Modern Woodmen Park.

The Bandits had opportunities but couldn't cash in, leaving nine runners on base and finishing 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position on the night.

Q.C. starter Rylan Kaufman took the loss in his first home start of the season after throwing 4.0 innings and allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits while striking out six and walking two batters. The lefty pitched around a leadoff single in a scoreless first inning, but allowed three runs, two earned, in the top of the second on three hits and a walk to give Beloit a 3-0 lead. One of the runs was unearned following a throwing error by Bandits' first baseman Dillan Shrum.

The Sky Carp continued to tack on in the top of the third, starting the inning with a leadoff double from catcher Will Banfield who came around to score on a two-run homer from the next batter, third baseman Ysnamol Nunez. Kaufman allowed another double to center fielder Dalvy Rosario and retired the next three hitters to keep the Bandits' deficit 5-0 heading into the bottom half of the frame.

Quad Cities answered in the bottom of the third with a lead-off single from shortstop Tyler Tolbert off Beloit starter Zach King. Tolbert stole second for his 25th swipe of the season (tied 2nd, Midwest League). He'd come around to score on a two-run homer by Luca Tresh to bring the Bandits within two runs, trailing 5-3 after three frames.

Beloit quickly got one of those runs back in the top of the fourth with a leadoff home run from Cody Morissette to extend its lead to 6-3. Kaufman retired the next three hitters to end the frame and his night.

The Bandits got the leadoff on man in the next two innings via singles by center fielder Peyton Wilson and second baseman Herard Gonzalez, respectively, but failed to cash in both times. King finished his day after 4.0 innings allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking five and walking six. Beloit right-hander Tyler Eckberg came in relief of King and picked up the win with 3.0 scoreless innings allowing no runs or hits, while walking one and striking out four.

After Quad Cities' reliever Harrison Beethe retired the side in order in a nine-pitch top of the fifth, Bandits right-hander Chase Wallace entered in the sixth and allowed a leadoff walk to Chiu who scored on a single by Morissette to push the Beloit lead to 7-3. Wallace struggled to find his command in his 3.0 innings pitched, allowing one earned run on one hit while walking five and striking out one.

The Bandits' best chance to rally came in the bottom of the eighth against Beloit reliever Justin Evans. The Sky Carp righty hit catcher Luca Tresh to begin the inning, struck out Dixon, but allowed a single to right fielder Juan Carlos Negret and hit Wilson to load the bases. After a mound visit, Evans struck out Shrum and third baseman Morgan McCullough to end the inning and keep the Bandits trailing 7-3.

Quad Cities' lefty Patrick Smith pitched a one-two-three top of the ninth with two strikeouts to lower his ERA to 3.12 on the season.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Bandits went down in order against Evans after a Tolbert pop out followed by back-to-back strikeouts of Gonzalez and designated hitter Tyler Gentry to end the game.

The Bandits totaled seven hits, four walks and 14 strikeouts on the night.

Quad Cities looks to end its second-longest losing streak of the season tomorrow in the series finale on Sunday, as they send right-hander Adrien Alcantara (2-2, 5.06 ERA) to the mound against Beloit righty Chris Mokma (0-1, 2.61 ERA).

First pitch between the River Bandits and Sky Carp is scheduled for 1:00pm at Modern Woodmen Park.
