
Somerset Rallies to Defeat Altoona in Seven-Inning Contest

CURVE, Pa. - Bubba Chandler matched a season-high six strikeouts for Altoona, but the Curve allowed seven unanswered runs on Saturday evening and lost to Somerset, 7-3, in a seven-inning affair at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
The game was scheduled to be the first of a doubleheader in Altoona, but after a three hour and 37-minute delay to its start and with more rain in the future, game two was postponed to Sunday afternoon.
Chandler cruised through the first three innings of his start, allowing just one hit. In the fourth, he allowed a solo home run to Ben Rice before giving up two more hits with two walks. Grant Ford entered in relief and allowed two inherited runners to score. Chandler tossed 3.2 innings with four runs allowed on four hits and three walks.
Ford allowed a run in the fifth inning before Jack Carey surrendered two runs on four hits in two innings. He struck out four batters, with Altoona pitching finishing with 11 total strikeouts.
Carter Bins hit his first home run of the season in his first game with Altoona, a solo shot in the third inning. Joe Perez finished the game with two hits, including a triple in the first inning. He scored on a Dustin Peterson groundout.
In the second inning, Altoona loaded the bases with one out and scored a run on a bases-loaded walk by Francisco Acuna , but Jackson Glenn followed with an inning-ending double play ball to end Altoona's chance of a big inning. The Curve were held scoreless over the final four innings of the game by Brock Selvidge, who tossed a complete game, striking out five in seven innings of work for Somerset.
Those with tickets to today's game will be able to exchange them for another home game this season of equal or lesser value, (excluding July 4) subject to availability. Tickets can be exchanged in person at the PNG Field Box Office, or over the phone at 877-99-CURVE. The box office is open Monday-Thursday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Fridays 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.
The Altoona Curve also announced that the scheduled fireworks show from the May 10 rainout has been rescheduled for Friday, August 30.
The first pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m. for the doubleheader tomorrow. Somerset will send RHP Zach Messinger to the mound in game one and RHP Bailey Dees in game two. Altoona has yet to announce its starters.
