Somerset Patriots Sign Outfielder Michael Burgess

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of outfielder Michael Burgess.

Burgess was the Washington Nationals' first round pick in the 2007 draft at 49th overall. In addition to the Nationals, he has experience in the Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros, and Baltimore Orioles organizations including five seasons at the Double-A level.

Last season in Single-A Frederick, Burgess hit .315 with 101 hits, 32 doubles, 15 home runs, and 68 RBI in 83 games played.

He began the 2015 season in Bowie, the Double-A affiliate of the Orioles.

Burgess has 428 runs scored, 776 hits, 188 doubles, 129 home runs, and 505 RBI in 889 games played throughout his career.

"Michael is a proven power guy that will be a welcomed addition in our lineup. I think he is also underrated as a defender. He plays the game hard and should be a great fit with our team. We are look forward to him being here in Somerset," said Brett Jodie, Manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.

In other team news, right-handed pitcher David Harden has been placed on the disabled list.
