(Bridgeport, CT - June 11, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (19-26) defeated the Long Island Ducks (29-17) 3-2 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in the opening game of a four-game series on Thursday night. The 'Fish snapped their five game losing streak, and also ended the Ducks ten game winning streak in the process. Bridgeport has now won six of the first seven meetings between the two clubs in the 2015 Ferry Cup Series.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Scott Maine (2-4) earned the victory, pitching five and one-third innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, walking one, and striking out three. Long Island Starting Pitcher Ian Marshall (3-2) suffered the loss, tossing six and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs (two earned runs) on four hits, walking six, and striking out five. Patrick Mincey retired all three batters he faced in relief in the top half of the ninth inning, earning his team leading fourth save. The Bluefish pitching staff retired the final 12 Ducks batters they faced, including all 11 hitters being erased by the bullpen.
The Ducks took the early lead off Maine in the top half of the first inning, as the first three batters reached base. Bryan Sabatella singled to lead off the game. Reegie Corona followed with a double, and Lew Ford drove home Sabatella with an RBI single, and three betters in the Ducks had a 1-0 lead with runners at the corners and nobody out. Randy Ruiz would ground into a double play, scoring Corona to make it 2-0 Long Island. Maine then struck out Cody Puckett to end the inning.
The'Fish got on the board for the first time in the bottom half of the third inning off Marshall on a sacrifice fly by Welington Dotel, scoring Matt Wessinger who led off the inning with a single. For Dotel it was his team leading 22nd RBI of the season. Bridgeport would tie the game at two in the bottom half of the fourth inning on an RBI groundout by Jake Luce (his first RBI in a Bluefish uniform), scoring Luis Rodriguez, who led off with a double. Bridgeport would take the lead for good in the bottom half of the fifth inning on a two out error by Lew Ford, who dropped a fly ball hit to right center field off the bat of Frazier Hall, scoring John Alonso who hustled home all the way from first base with what would be the decisive run after reaching on a one out single off Marshall.
