Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

(Waldorf, MD., June 11, 2015)--- Southern Maryland coming into the night has scored 20 runs the last two nights, but only need three tonight as they defeat the Camden Riversharks by the final of 3-2 to break a four game losing streak.

Camden struck first with two runs in the top of the second. With runners at second and third, Brandon Chaves drove one out to right field towards the corner where Fred Lewis dropped the baseball to allow both Sorondo, and Rockett to score to make it 2-0. In the bottom of the frame the Blue Crabs tied it with two runs of their own. Gustavo led off the inning with a walk, followed by a Jake Opitz double to put runners at second and third. After a Jovan Rosa fly out, Jamar Walton singled to center to score Molina. The next hitter, Fred Lewis reached base on an error by the second baseman Paddy Matera allowing Opitz to score to tie the game at 2-2.

Southern Maryland would score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth. Jake Opitz started the rally with a single. Two batters later, and after two groundouts to move Opitz to third, Craig Maddox ripped a single off the foot of the pitcher Murphy allowing Opitz to score to make it 3-2.

RHP Jake Hale picked up his staff leading sixth win of the season, going seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, and striking out six. Cody Eppley pitched a clean inning of work out of the bullpen, and Erik Hamren picked up his 10th save of the year. Camden meanwhile stranded the tying run in scoring position in three of the last five innings.

Game two of the four game set tomorrow at Regency Furniture Stadium. RHP Jon Leicester (1-0, 1.71) will throw for Southern Maryland, while RHP Wes Torrez (3-1, 3.92) will start for Camden. The first pitch is set for 7:05 P.M.
