Lancaster Stormers News Release

Aaron Herr slammed two homers and a triple and drove in seven runs, but the record-tying onslaught was not enough to stave off the Somerset Patriots Wednesday evening as the host club outslugged the Barnstormers, 13-10, at TD Bank Park.

With the win, the Patriots completed a sweep of the three-game series and put the Barnstormers eight games behind in the Freedom Division with their fifth straight loss.

Herr gave Lancaster a 3-0 lead in the first inning with a blast clearing the boards in left field, his second in two nights. His two-run triple off Sean Smith's glove in right center stretched the lead to 5-1.

Ricardo Gomez, making the fourth spot start for the Barnstormers on a six-game road trip, held the lead through the first three frames but faded in the fourth. He walked Josh Pressley leading off the inning. Aaron Herr threw high to second base on a force play attempt on a ground ball by Matt Hagen. A walk to Jeff Nettles loaded the bases. A double to left by Travis Anderson brought home two runs, and Teuris Olivares cut the lead to 5-4 with a single to left. Gomez was lifted in favor of Eddie Camacho after a walk to Elliott Ayala reloaded the bases.

Camacho allowed only one of the three inherited runners to score, on a one-out walk to Smith that forced home the tying run, and the Barnstormers would get another lead.

Bryan Sabatella singled up the middle with one out in the fifth inning and came home to score when Danny Bravo tagged a double to left center, his third hit of the night. Michael Woods popped out to second, but Herr pummeled a two-run homer to left center, putting Lancaster ahead, 8-5.

Camacho had two outs and a runner at second base in the bottom of the fifth when Travis Anderson singled to right, the second of his four hits. Matt Hagen raced home, beating Ryan Mulhern's throw. Jed Morris tried to cut Anderson down at second base and threw the ball into center. Woods made a bid to get Anderson at third, but his throw skipped into the dugout as Lancaster's lead slipped to one run.

The Patriots salted the game away in the sixth. Eric Junge (0-1), making his Barnstormers debut, allowed a walk to Anthony Granato, who stole second. Smith tied the game for a second time on a single to center and also swiped second. Junge fanned Mike Rodriguez for the second out and walked Pressley intentionally. Hagen doubled home Smith with the go-ahead run, and Somerset tacked on two more when Nettles' ground ball rolled under Lloyd Turner's glove for an error. Anderson made it 12-8 with a double to left center.

Tip Fairchild (2-1) held the Barnstormers scoreless for three innings to earn the win.

Lancaster returns home to take on the Camden Riversharks, opening a four-game series on Thursday evening. Eric Ackerman (2-2) will take on Nate Bump (5-2) in a rematch of a 1-0 pitching gem last Saturday. It's Bark in the Park Night with the game scheduled for 7:05 pm.

NOTES: Jutt Hileman also drove in seven runs in a game against Long Island in August, 2005...Lancaster used Jason Scobie and Juan Ovalles, the starting pitchers from the previous two nights, in the game...Bravo extended his streak of reaching base safely to 20 games...He now has 13 doubles on the year, one shy of Hagen's league lead...Anderson was 6-for-8 with eight RBI in the series.
