Newark Bears News Release
Spotting Southern Maryland an early three run lead, the Newark Bears rallied for a 13-7 victory to open a seven game home stand at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
Newark's Solomon Manriquez snapped a three all tie with a two run homerun in the third inning, but it was the bat of Tyke Redman that proved to be the difference.
His seventh inning grand slam homerun capped a six RBI night for the former major leaguer, offsetting an impressive five homerun performance by the visiting Blue Crabs.
Newark's Shane Komine takes his first win of the season after pitching for 3.1 innings, striking out three and allowing only one earned run. Southern Maryland's Kenny Rayborn records his second loss of the season.
The win brings Newark's record to 21-18 and Southern Maryland's to 24-16.
The Bears face the Blue Crabs on Friday Night which is NASCAR night at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, featuring 2004 Sprint Cup Champion Kurt Bush, who will sign autographs and greet fans at The Den. Tickets are still available for Friday night's game by calling 1-888-85-BEARS or by visiting www.newarkbears.com.
