
Patriots Sink Bluefish to Pick Up Seventh in a Row

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 11-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday night.
Bridgeport took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after center fielder Adam Greenberg walked, second baseman Enohel Polanco singled, and third baseman Luis Lopez hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Greenberg.
Somerset answered in the bottom of the second inning after third baseman Jeff Nettles singled, designated hitter Travis Anderson singled, and left fielder Elliott Ayala hit into a fielder's choice to score Nettles. Shortstop Anthony Granato followed with an RBI single for the 2-1 lead.
The Patriots added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning. Right fielder Mike Rodriguez singled, stole second, and scored on a single by second baseman Matt Hagen. Hagen advanced to second on a throwing error, moved to third on a fielder's choice by Nettles, and scored on a passed ball to make the score 4-1.
The Bluefish scored in the top of the fourth inning after first baseman Jesse Hoorelbeke doubled and shortstop Rayner Bautista doubled to drive him home and cut the lead to 4-2.
Somerset scored in the bottom of the fourth inning after catcher Jason Belcher singled, Ayala walked, and Granato reached on a fielder's choice. Belcher and Ayala then came around to score on a throwing error by Hoorelbeke. Rodriguez followed with a single to plate Granato, stole second, and later scored on a single by Hagen. Hagen then stole second and scored on an RBI single by Nettles for the 9-1 advantage.
The Patriots scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning. Rodriguez walked, Hagen singled, and Nettles doubled to clear the bases for the 11-2 lead.
Patriots starter Brian Adams (5-2) picked up the win after allowing two earned runs on five hits and six strikeouts in six innings pitched. Bridgeport starter Gary Knotts (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing nine runs, four earned, on nine hits in 3.2 innings pitched.
The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a 7:05 pm game on Friday, June 5th against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
