Justin Selman gave the visitors the initial lead at 3:30 of the first period when he retrieved the puck along the half wall and fired the puck into an open net after Kasimir Kaskisuo had attempted to retrieve his stick in the corner.
Denver Manderson scored off a feed from Jon Jutzi from beneath the goal line at 16:08 to tie the score at 1-1.
The Solar Bears took their first lead of the night when Trevor Ludwig threw the puck toward the net from the left corner and Joe Perry knocked the pass past Ville Husso at 13:08.
The Mavericks countered when Rocco Carzo drove the center lane and slammed a centering pass from Selman into the net at 18:08.
Orlando took another lead at 10:56 of the third frame when Manderson sped down the right wing and snapped a shot above the shoulder of Husso.
Missouri tied the score again to force overtime when Dane Fox used a sharp-angle shot at the left circle to mirror Manderson's tally at 17:07.
Eric Faille nearly won the game in the extra session for the Solar Bears on a breakaway but he was stopped by Husso, and on the ensuing transition Sam Povorozniouk tucked a backhand shot along the ice underneath the glove of Kaskisuo to give the Mavericks the victory in the first-ever meeting between the two clubs.
Kasikisuo took the overtime loss with 26 saves on 30 shots against; Husso picked up the win with 47 saves on 50 shots against.
