Sniper Serov Comes to Condors

September 30, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release

The Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL moved a step closer in completing their Opening Night roster by adding LW Vlad Serov, a native of Ukraine. Serov is the 16th player to join Bakersfield for the 2004-05 season.

At 26, Serov has played five professional seasons, four of them in the United States. Last season he scored 34 points in 28 combined games between Kiev (Ukraine) and Eppan (Italy). Serov won a pair of championships during his time in the United Hockey League, where he spent much of his first two seasons. He also appeared in over 60 games in the American and International Hockey Leagues. In 46 career UHL games, Serov lit the lamp 48 times and added 21 goals in 27 UHL playoff matches en route to Colonial Cup titles. In 2000-01 with Quad City, he tallied 33 goals in 29 regular season contests and later led the league in playoff goals, averaging one per game.

The 5'9", 185-pound left wing appeared in 72 games in the ECHL with the now-defunct Greensboro Generals between 2001-2003, scoring 31goals and 56 points. This spring, he also represented Team Ukraine in the World Championships, as his homeland is just beginning to make its mark on the international scene. He was a member of the Ukraine's very first Olympic hockey team in 2002.

In 118 games between two North American AA leagues - the UHL and ECHL - Serov has scored 79 goals and 128 points.

"Vlad brings to the team some speed and major scoring ability," said Head Coach Marty Raymond. "He's done it in the past and he'll do it again with us. He's also a player that has won a couple of championships so he knows how to win, and he has experience in the AHL, which is a key for us."

Stats for Serov are listed below. The Condors have six defensemen signed: Ryan Coole, Guy Dupuis, Ryan Gillis, David Kudelka, Luis Tremblay and Chris Twerdun. At forward, Serov joins Todd Alexander, Mike Hofstrand, Brett Lutes, Jon Mirasty, Lars Peder Nagel, Paul Rosebush, Steve Slonina and Kevin St. Jacques. Goaltender Sean Fields is also signed for 2004-05.

The Bakersfield Condors season opens in 22 days at home on October 22nd against the expansion Victoria Salmon Kings. Ticket packages are on sale now for as low as $30. Contact the BSE office at 324-PUCK (7825) for more information.
